DIET
Giraffes are herbivores. This means they strictly eat plants, their favourites being vines, flowers, fruit, grass, and leaves off of high trees or bushes. They have a very unique way of eating as they only have a bottom row of teeth in their mouth. They cannot simply bite down on something to eat it, it has to take whatever is holding the desired food source, (for example a branch holding leaves), move their head and clamp their bottom teeth onto them to rip them off and chew against the bare upper half of their mouth with their tongue to swallow it. Giraffes also have a very hearty appetite. They usually eat up to 30 kg (66 lbs) a day, sometimes even more depending on the size of the giraffe. In fact, they can spend 16-20 hours on an average day just eating, they typically only sleep for 4 hours a day!
